“My G-JET® has given me the confidence to dance and move without worry. I can participate in daily life however I please without the tube getting in the way or distracting me from my goals and aspirations.”

Amanda

Initially, it was assumed that years of battling Anorexia and Bulimia were the cause of my Gastroparesis, but I have since been diagnosed with a slew of other complications and now, my specialists are looking into Autoimmune Disorders.  I currently use the AMT G-JET®.

I have been waiting for quite some time to try out this tube. I have always needed jejunal access due to my Gastroparesis and I have tried many different tubes. I like low-profile tubes, because I am a dancer and keep active. Unfortunately, many of the tubes I have tried (both danglers and low-profile) would regularly flip from my Jejunum into my stomach. I requested the G-JET® and had two obstacles to overcome to attain it.  The first was the hospital where I received care and their willingness to use AMT products. The second was the availability of this tube in the size I needed. Finally, after a couple years of waiting, the hospital agreed to try out AMT and my size was made available on the market.

This tube has not flipped into my stomach like so many others before it. It is also discrete, comfortable and I like the shape. (The glow in the dark feature is pretty cool too.)

I have used Kimberly-Clark®, Cook Medical® and Boston Scientific®* tubes in the past. Some were more successful than others, but finding the combination of low-profile and the jejunal portion staying in place was difficult to come across.

I am 27 years old and I own a dance studio. I am also the Dance Team Coach for my local High School and the Theater Director for a Pre-K – 8th-grade school outside of Boston. My favorite style is ballet, but I have also studied and teach jazz, contemporary, lyrical, and some tap. I have been able to use dance as my escape from difficult times, as well as a way to heal, express myself, and give back to the various communities, including those using tube or IV nutrition, while spreading awareness. I have danced for companies throughout New England and have taught classes for studios, non-profits and after-school programs from Cape Cod to North of Boston.

Additionally, I am a licensed Cosmetologist, and I have worked in salons prior to opening my business. I also enjoy other forms of Visual Arts, such as painting and drawing. Currently, I am studying ASL with the hopes of someday creating a special program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in my dance studio. This dream has stemmed off of teaching my first Deaf student last year and finding her family and the overall experience incredibly inspiring.

My G-JET® has given me the confidence to dance and move without worry. I can participate in daily life however I please without the tube getting in the way or distracting me from my goals and aspirations. The tube also gave my stomach a much-needed break.  Thanks to the AMT G-JET®, I am now managing my Gastroparesis better and have the ability to eat things I once could not.
