I’m Avery’s mother, and I’d like to share our journey with the MiniONE® Balloon Button G Tube.
Our sweet girl Avery has been a bit of a medical mystery since she was born. She was born at 39 weeks and was immediately rushed to the NICU due to some breathing difficulties. By about day 4 of life, she was off all breathing support but didn’t really want to take a bottle. We spent most of our 7 weeks in the NICU just trying to get her to feed. She was an otherwise healthy baby, but she just didn’t want to eat. We made the decision to get her a MiniONE® Balloon Button G Tube.
Getting the G-tube gave us the chance to go home and be a family outside of the NICU. Avery now had the freedom to not be hooked up to wires. She could meet the rest of her family, go to the lake, and participate in holidays. She could do everything with us!
Avery is now a year old and still gets most of her nutrition from her G-tube. We’ve made some progress… Avery discovered that she LOVES veggie straws and pickles!
Not going to lie, as first-time parents especially, the G-tube seemed scary and like something we had failed at since she couldn’t eat. But now, the tube is a blessing. It has allowed our girl to be the happy, healthy, and thriving girl that we love. It is giving our girl the time and freedom she needs to figure out her eating difficulties. Our life wouldn’t be the same without it!
