“Mimi’s micro G-JET® is a perfect solution!”

– Mimi’s Dad

Mimi has had a feeding tube her entire life. Due to her Trisomy 18, she has faced many feeding difficulties. Her cognitive delays made swallowing coordination a challenge from day one. Her heart defect made her fatigue quickly during feeds, and once we did get some calories in, her severe reflux and delayed stomach emptying added another hurdle. Ultimately a GJ tube was necessary to make sure Mimi was getting adequately nourished.

After a year and a half with the same style tube, Mimi experienced some intestinal bleeding. The weighted tip of the tube had been rubbing in the same spot for that year and a half, causing a small ulcer. We needed a different feeding tube, but with her small size, no one had other solutions. Just a few weeks later, Mimi’s fluoroscopy team and representatives from AMT introduced us to their new micro G-JET® low profile transgastric-jejunal feeding tube.

It’s amazing! It is a slightly shorter length than her previous tube and has less contact with the skin around her stoma, which has helped resolve our ongoing issues with granulation tissue. The tube is radio-opaque, making it highly visible under fluoroscopy – aiding in placement and reducing the amount of contrast solution necessary to verify proper placement. It also has a slightly bigger internal diameter, which has dramatically cut back on clogs. The gastric lumen is also larger which makes for improved gastric venting and a happier tummy. Mimi’s previous tube was the dangler type, so we are also very pleased to have made the switch to a lower profile button.

In fact, we’ve had virtually zero issues since switching to the micro G-JET®.  We are incredibly thankful to have found this feeding tube when we did. It has been the perfect solution!
