Cali’s G-JET®

“For the first time in many years, I truly feel healthier, happier, and stronger.
The low-profile design has also greatly improved my confidence compared to the dangler, allowing me to feel more comfortable in my everyday life.”

Cali

Ever since a diffuse axonal traumatic brain injury (TBI) nine years ago, I have been unable to consistently meet my nutritional needs orally. I have been hospitalized many times for malnutrition and intermittently needed nasogastric/nasojejunal (NG/NJ) tubes for enteral support. In April 2026, my symptoms worsened significantly. I was having more frequent syncopal episodes, persistent hypoglycemia with elevated ketones, and became too unwell to attend my graduate classes. Within a month, I was admitted to the hospital and found to be severely malnourished, and the doctors determined that I needed a more long-term solution for nutrition. Because I had poor tolerance to both PO, consuming nutrition by mouth, and G-tube feeds, they decided to place a GJ tube.

After initially using a different brand, I was switched to the AMT G-JET® Button. My doctors recommended the AMT G-JET® because of its tapered transition and four-point stabilization, which they believed would help reduce granulation tissue and the risk of the tube flipping. There were several other factors playing into the recommendation as well, and they felt strongly enough that the IR team special-ordered the G-JET® for me, as it wasn’t typically stocked.

The difference has been incredible. My previous GJ tube frequently clogged, irritated my stoma, and disconnected nearly every night, making it difficult to regularly run feeds. Since switching to the G-JET®, I have not experienced any of those issues. Because my tube is functioning reliably, I have been able to consistently receive the nutrition I need. For the first time in many years, I truly feel healthier, happier, and stronger. The low-profile design has also greatly improved my confidence compared to the dangler, allowing me to feel more comfortable in my everyday life.

I love going on adventures with friends, spending time with family, playing with my energetic three-year-old “nieces”, and of course, spoiling my dog, Mozi. I hope to become a pediatric physical therapist working in a hospital or inpatient rehabilitation setting, because I aspire to help kiddos see their dreams become reality. I am eager to dedicate my career to supporting and empowering children and their families, and to being a compassionate, collaborative clinician who has the privilege to advocate for children.

Dependable nutrition access through my G-JET® has allowed me to engage presently in the activities that I love… it gave me my quality of life back. My journey has shaped the resilience, empathy, and intentionality I will bring to every family I have the privilege of partnering with in their child’s journey as a future pediatric PT.
