“I refer to the MiniACE® as our LIFE SAVER!!!”

– Zane’s Mom

My son was born three months early and spent five months in the NICU.  When I took him home, he had a multitude of medical issues. Heart surgery, multiple ICU stays, skull surgery, GI issues, ENT issues, developmental issues, it seemed to never end. Thankfully, we worked hard and my little miracle has grown into an amazing 6-year-old boy. But, there was always something we could not win the battle on…and that was his GI issues.

Five and a half years of struggling, hospitalizations, multiple medications daily, anxiety and trauma from the pain and discomfort, and required interventions. No one was able to help my son. His quality of life diminished over the lack of effective treatment. He lost friends.  He couldn’t participate in some of the things he loved. He was singled out. I struggled watching him struggle day in and day out for years. There were many days of tears for both of us. We both had enough.

As a mother, I had to decide to make what I thought of as a “drastic” move. Something I promised that I would never do. That terrifying and drastic move involved meeting with a surgeon for invasive surgery.  That is when something FINALLY changed. And that first “something” was his surgeon. The second “something” was the AMT MiniACE®! Which I also refer to as our LIFE SAVER!!!!

We didn’t have the MiniACE® first though. We started with a foley catheter, then straight catheter, then a Mic-key® button and THEN a MiniACE®. Let me tell you, the MiniACE® wins by leaps and bounds!!!! You see, the MiniACE® changed both of our lives. My son is no longer struggling with the GI issues. He is off five of the six daily GI meds he used to take. He isn’t hospitalized anymore for traumatizing procedures. He isn’t in pain or embarrassed. I don’t have to worry if he’s going to have an event. I don’t have to worry that he will miss days of school, parties with friends, or another swimming play date. I don’t have to say “no” to going places. He even gets to pick fun pads to put around it! I was terrified for him to have a button, but this was absolutely the best decision ever. For the first time in years, he is happy, comfortable, and confident. I will say it again, my son is HAPPY AND HEALTHY! You have no idea what this means. There is nothing more a mother could ask for but that.
